Frozen food giant Birds Eye has taken steps to make its supply chain more sustainable with its Forever Food programme.
By implementing the scheme, Birds Eye hopes to reduce its carbon emissions by 20 per cent in the next ten years compared to 1990 baseline levels.
It also plans to reduce the amount of packaging it uses by 15 per cent by 2012 and hopes to send zero waste to landfill within the next five years.
In addition, Birds Eye will commit to sourcing 100 per cent of its wild and farmed fish from certified fisheries by 2012.
The five-year plan will officially launch on July 22nd and has been developed with a number of charities, including the WWF, the Marine Stewardship Council, the Food and Drink Federation and the Prince's Countryside Fund.
Another company looking to make its supply chain more sustainable is Ford, which outlined its plans to reduce emissions in its 2009/10 Blueprint for Sustainability: The Future at Work report.
