Citroen commended for eco-friendly vans

Companies which want to make their supply chain strategy more eco-friendly may opt to invest in Citroen vans following a new study.

According to a report by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and the Department of Transport, the French company's vans have a lower carbon footprint than any of its competitors.

The Nemo van, for instance, was described as the most fuel efficient van in the country, as it can carry more than 600 kg of weight while emitting just 116g/km of carbon dioxide.

Robert Handyside, commercial vehicle operations manager at Citroen, commented: "We are delighted that the Department for Transport/SMMT Van CO2 database shows that Citroen has exceptional fuel economy figures across its [light commercial vehicle] range.”

He said the Nemo is ideal for a wide range of business transport applications, as it also offers a sizable load compartment.

This comes after Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy was quoted by Click Liverpool as saying that encouraging green practices across a business would help it to have a more eco-friendly supply chain strategy.
