Transport and logistics companies have been urged make sure the tyres on their vehicles are properly maintained.
According to TyreSafe, fleet operators are increasingly under pressure to make sure their vehicles are roadworthy.
The organisation has therefore added pages to its website specifically for users of commercial vehicles such as trucks to make sure safety information is easily accessible.
Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, commented: "Making tyre maintenance a key priority allows commercial fleet operators to help ensure the safety of their drivers."
He added that companies and drivers need to be more vigilant to make sure their tyres meet minimum safety standards, as they can be issued fixed penalty notices at the roadside if they fail to do so.
This comes after the Retail Motor Industry Federation warned that high MOT failure rates in large vans suggest that not enough maintenance work is being performed on these vehicles.
The organisation called for more preventative measures to be taken, partly because this can be cheaper in the long run.
