Food and drinks manufacturers want to improve their supply chain strategies in the coming months, new research has suggested.
According to a survey published by Culina Logistics, 45.5 per cent of managers in the sector are keen to improve their primary transport, while other key areas they want to address include issues such as secondary vehicles and warehousing.
Logisticsmanager.com reports that respondents revealed their biggest cost efficiency gains in recent times had also been seen in core supply chain areas, including primary transport.
Thomas van Mourik, chief executive of Culina Logistics, told the website that the economic climate has put a focus back on efficiencies in the supply chain.
He added that the research "provides a barometer for supply chain efficiencies across the food and drink sector, allowing manufacturers to benchmark their own performance".
SupplyChainStandard.com recently revealed the nominees for its European Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2010, which include the likes of Cadbury UK.
