Companies need to come up with concrete plans to tackle the issue of carbon emissions in their supply chains, an expert has said.
In a blog for ProcurementLeaders.com, Steve Hall said there had been much talk about a reduction in emissions, but a lack of clarity on how it might be achieved.
"At the moment, there are some huge claims being made about the scale of emissions that companies are going to take out of their supply chain, but very few have stuck their neck out to say exactly how they're going to do it," he said.
Mr Hall cited the findings of a recent Ernst & Young survey, where 36 per cent of respondents said they were working with suppliers with the expectation they would reduce their carbon footprints.
He said it is a challenge that the industry must tackle head on, and with definitive action rather than empty promises.
Car manufacturer Ford recently announced plans to reduce the carbon footprint of its supply chain.
