Haulage companies in the UK have been issued with a new version of the International Road Transport Guide, which contains the latest global transport regulations.
The guide has been drawn up by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) to prevent confusion among those in the logistics and supply chain sector who may be heading overseas.
It also contains more general information on subjects such as ferry routes and Customs procedures in foreign destinations.
Don Armour, editor of the publication, described it as "indispensible", as it contains valuable content on issues including the penalties for contravening the rules in some countries.
"International road transport operators often face confusing sets of local and national regulations that they do not encounter in the UK," he commented.
This, he said, includes weight and loading restrictions, as well as possible bans on driving in city centres because of the high carbon output of haulage vehicles.
Issues such as weight limits could be important to those firms that are trying to save money by ensuring that trucks are always fully loaded with goods when they are on the road.
This supply chain strategy helped logistics firm Stobart Group achieve healthy profits last year.
