IBM to launch supply chain innovation in Beijing

Wednesday, 13/8/2008 05:42
Computer giant IBM has announced that it is to open a new supply chain innovation centre in Beijing, China.

The Beijing Supply Chain Innovation Centre will combine IBM's already-substantial knowledge of best supply chain practice with other companies in order to provide industry with new ways of providing efficient supply chain practices.

Already armed with strong supply chain research, business consulting services, software capabilities and an Integrated Supply Chain group, IBM is well placed to begin its further research into the area, and it is believed there will be some fascinating results from the investigations.

Included in the current plan so far is a Virtual Command Centre, Supply Chain Optimisation tools and a Carbon Trade-off Modeller, which will help companies understand the impacts of new supply chain practices.

IBM's attempts to create and share best practice is an important step in what is shaping up to be an exciting time for supply chain management, as requirements for efficiency and ethical control over supply chains are growing tighter.

Any company interested in improving the practice of their own supply chain would do well to invest in outsourcing some of the responsibility to a supply chain management company.
