The winners of the 2009 British International Freight Association (BIFA) awards have been announced.

Revealed at an annual lunch held yesterday (January 21st), the victorious organisations rose above thirty finalists to clinch eight prestigious logistics and supply chain accolades.

The winners were Activair UK (air freight award), Gefco UK (European logistics award), Eagle Cargo Services (ocean freight award), Panalpina World Transport (project forwarding award), Woodland International Transport (special services award), Gist (staff development award) and Allport (supply chain management award).

Samantha Mitchell of the World Transport Agency was also named young freight forwarder of the year.

BIFA director general Peter Quantrill commented: "The achievements of the winners included the conversion of prime cargo from sea freight to air freight, provision of niche logistics services to the motorcycle industry, developing services to the publishing industry, as well as training and IT enhancements."

Mr Quantrill added that Ms Mitchell was given the award because she had displayed an "all-round knowledge" of supply chain strategy and the importance of logistics services.

BIFA has around 1,400 corporate members and focuses on lobbying, providing information and hosting training sessions.
