Seatbelt add-on device 'could reduce driver injury'

A new lifesaving seatbelt add-on device could help drivers to stay safe on the roads and reduce backache or posture problems, it has been claimed.

The CG-LockO, which fits on to existing seatbelts in just a few minutes, could be used by transport planning chiefs as an important part of their risk management strategy.

According to the manufacturer, the device keeps the driver in the safest and healthiest position in the car, encouraging good posture and enhancing safety.

The claims have now been backed up by experts after top UK back-care retailer BackInAction asked osteopaths to test out the CG-LockO.

Results showed that 90 per cent of respondents believed the device would reduce backache, with a further 70 per cent satisfied that it would improve safety in a collision.

David Newbound, managing director of BackInAction, said the seatbelt add-on could be the solution to reducing back pain and improving comfort for both drivers and passengers.

"The results are typical of what we hear from users, with 90 per cent recommending the device to other drivers," he added.

Last month, the Fleet Safety Forum urged transport planning and logistics bosses to tighten up on driver safety by addressing the problem of ill-fitting head restraints.
