Supply chains 'facing key challenges' in 2010

Friday, 13/8/2010 03:45
There are major challenges facing supply chains in 2010, with five key factors likely to make or break them, a new survey has revealed.

A poll of 350 global firms carried out by PRTM found that supply chain volatility and uncertainty will affect how companies formulate their strategies.

In addition, developing a global supplier network is likely to be the key driver in companies boosting profits, with regionally-configured supply chains the major factor.

"These supply chains serve regional customers according to their requirements, while bundling supply chain partners, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centres as much as is economically possible," the report stated.

Market dynamics are also likely to play a role, the respondents claimed, with gross margins increasing in the next two years, while risk management could be a major factor in firms staying afloat or going under.

Finally, the lack of integration in existing supply chain organisations could see others taking advantage, the survey found.
