SupplyScape is using supply chain management to ensure that US and European pharmaceutical companies do not get their serial numbers wrong.
By managing supply chains, the firm is hoping to ensure that rules in each country do not cause problems when importing or exporting.
Robin Koh, chief strategy officer of SupplyScape, said that global supply chain issues are increasingly complex.
"A lot of branded pharmaceutical manufacturers are global, where wholesalers and retailers tend to be more US focussed. That drives different requirements within serialisation, such as how a serial number is used," he explained.
Mr Koh said it would not be satisfactory to reach a situation where some European countries are operating on different serial numbers to US firms, leading to collisions.
"We don't want to reach the point where certain pharmacy chains won't recognise certain serial numbers," Mr Koh explained.
SupplyScape believes firms should be collaborating their supply chain systems across the whole business and within the industry.
"A company must understand the issues of interoperability so they are able to function on a supply chain-wide basis," he added.
