Supply chain conference to focus on transport planning

Tuesday, 27/7/2010 10:58
An upcoming conference will focus on transport planning and ways in which the industry can bring about process improvement.

Taking place on Thursday November 18th, the IGD Supply Chain Summit will be held at the QE2 in Westminster, London, with the speaker line-up recently announced by the event organiser.

Industry leaders set to voice their opinions include Neal Austin, logistics director at Morrisons, Gavin Chappell, supply chain director at Asda, and Wendy Manning, head of customer logistics at Coca-Cola Enterprises.

"The Supply Chain Summit will explore the changing supply chain landscape together with the ways that companies are planning for change and ensuring they are fit for the future," IGD explained.

It comes after a study commissioned by Defra and carried out by English Farming and Food Partnerships uncovered serious failings in the UK produce supply chain.

The report flagged up issues including a lack of collaborative relationships and supermarket pressure on margins, while calling for the government to incentivise a more widespread uptake of support for grower groups.
