Asda is aiming to compete with Tesco in the Christmas market for online spending by introducing Asda Direct.
Food and general merchandise ranges will be combined in the service with about 750,000 non-food products going on sale in time for the festive season.
Reports from Retail Week reveal that Asda's new system will enable the retailer to provide a larger number of products, including music, video and electrical goods.
Andy Bond, chief executive of the supermarket, said that the non-food products will initially be delivered via a third-party company while in-store kiosks will be opened to give customers the option of picking up their delivery.
"Everything I've read and experienced says that the winning strategy is to connect your online with your bricks and mortar," he explained.
Meanwhile, Asda has also announced strong sales for May after traffic gains in the UK market increased the need for customers to search out cheap prices.
Wal-Mart International vice-chairman Mike Duke said that international business was experiencing a "solid sales performance".
