Supply chain managers have been reminded that one of the most common problems faced by companies this year may be failing suppliers or clients, following the cancellation of two major motor shows in the UK.
The Sexy Green Car Show and the Commercial Vehicle Show have both been cancelled already this year, creating a gap in which manufacturers will not be able to promote their newest vehicles.
The cancellations have both been sudden, leaving car buyers and manufacturers alike struggling to bridge the gap.
Alun Parry, head of PR at Suzuki, said: "We have four cars beneath or at 120g/km, including the new Alto at 103g/km CO2 and the recent introduction of the Splash 1 litre, so it would have been a great opportunity to show our green credentials."
A similarly sudden cut in production by a supplier could seriously affect businesses this year, and could have a negative impact on companies even far down a supply chain.
Contracting a third party supply chain management company could help to reduce the exposure a company has to another business that collapses.
Supply chain management companies can similarly be contracted in order to help a company reduce its CO2 emissions, which can boost the value of their product during the current recession.
