The clothing industry is playing a major role in helping to boost supply chain traceability, it has been claimed.
An article in the Financial Times has pointed to the recent Transparent Economy report by John Elkington, a corporate responsibility and sustainable development expert, which noted that supply chain traceability is essential for any firms hoping to highlight their ethics.
One example issued in the report is that Tesco cut Uzbeki cotton out of its clothing in 2006 due to concerns over child labour but the company could not completely eliminate the material until the end of 2007.
Mr Elkington noted that this is one challenge which the clothing industry is helping to solve, by boosting traceability and speeding up the process.
Meanwhile, an event taking place at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland on September 23rd, hosted by Durham City-based NOF Energy, will provide advice to firms about entering the renewables sector supply chain.
