Those updating vehicles as part of continued improvement to transport planning should think carefully about the colours they choose, it has been advised.
A report issued by Volvo found that although functionality was right up there with quality and reliability when it comes to the purchase of new trucks, standing out from your rivals was equally valuable.
It explained this is particularly the case in a competitive market where brand awareness plays an important role in how firms are perceived.
Carina Bystrom, colour and material designer at Volvo Trucks' design department, explained the market was clearly undergoing a change.
"In 2008 and 2009 we launched about twenty new metallic colours. We only had a few metallic paints before that and we have noted considerable demand for these," she added.
In July, Volvo Trucks - along with EuroTra - selected the Royal Mail Network as the winner of the latter company's Safety and Innovation Award for 2009.
