A leading packaging firm has announced the launch of a new platform designed to boost the efficiency of its spare parts supply chain strategy.

Bosch Packaging Technology has revealed its new advance at the PACK EXPO 2011 and is designed to improve the efficient processing of orders and requests, Packaging Europe has reported.

The platform will make more information and data on customised and machine-specific spare parts available.

The new E-Portal promises to give information on availability, price and delivery to improve the ability to provide reliable production process planning.

Ray Nungesser, sales manager at Bosch Packaging Services USA, said that growing competition in the market is foregrounding the importance of logistics supply chain strategy.

He said: "The E-Portal helps manufacturers optimise their spare parts planning and reduce planned downtime of the packaging machines during production and maintenance. It also eliminates time-consuming searches for spare parts and improves the ordering process."

Earlier this month, Leslie Taylor-McLaughlin, speaking on behalf of WWPC – WorldWide Partnership, told IFW that globalisation is changing the issues that are facing supply chain strategy.
