Food supply chain management in Scotland aided

Supply chain management in Scottish farming is now being more understood, it has been suggested.

Richard Lochead, the cabinet secretary for rural affairs has told a meeting in Fife that a new project entitled C2 (Cultivating Collaboration) will encourage closer links between producers, processors and consumers.

According to the Scotsman, Mr Lochead said that "efficient collaboration" is the only way that a "world class co-operative supply chain in Scotland" can be obtained in relation to the food industry.

Alan Stevenson, supply chain development director with SAOS, added: "To gain the benefits of working more closely together, you have to change the culture and behaviour within your supply chain. It means building trust and reliability, which can take time."

It is hoped that the C2 project will help give advice to those looking to smooth out kinks in their processes.

Food and drink is one of Scotland's biggest industries, contributing over £7 billion to the economy, Mr Lochead concluded.
