Global businesses 'need to protect their supply chains'

Global organisations must protect their supply chain integrity, if they are to better their economic performance.

That is the conclusion of delegates taking part in Jardine Lloyd Thompson's (JLT) supply chain risk workshop at the Association of Risk Management conference.

According to reports from Post Magazine, the findings indicate that businesses are becoming increasingly aware of the need to get the best out of their departments.

Neil Campbell, head of life science and chemicals at JLT, said it was only recently that organisations had recognised their ability to adapt their supply chain to specific needs to minimise risk and future loss.

"The industry has started to wake up to the increasing challenges faced by international business and the challenge for the long-term success is clear," he added.

The workshop also found that it was difficult for firms to fully understand the risk involved in supply chains.

It also found that as a result of pressure to streamline aspects of the supply chain and reduce financial cost, businesses were starting to see a negative impact on continuity planning.
