Intel is the process of transforming its supply change strategy and says that the processes it has implemented so far have already tripled their response times, reports Supply Chain Standard.

Simon Barrett, the firm's global logistics strategist, told delegates at this week's 1-2-1 Supply Chain Excellence Summit in Birmingham that changes at management practice level were the main drivers in their improved processes.

Some of the things Intel has done to improve its performance include scrapping out dated inventories, moving its product centres closer to its core base of customers and delegating decision process to separate hubs for better clarity and a wider viewpoint.

Visitors to the summit were also told of how Telefonica UK had helped mobile communications giants O2 to implement faster ways of processing returns and John Currah of G's Fresh potato producers opened discussions of reforming supply chain management.

After discussing in groups, 75 of supply chain leaders voted that the time is right time to invest in changes for the future.

Cost reduction was the main talking point at a similar supply chain summit in London earlier this month.
