The challenges being faced by technology giant Cisco can be attributed partly to problems in its supply chain strategy, according to one source.
Thomas Cullen, writing for Transport Intelligence, pointed out that the long shipping delays which have led to many recipients becoming disgruntled are partly to blame for the company's revised estimates regarding delivery times.
At the start of the year, shipping estimates for Cisco's Adaptive Security Appliance firewalls, were four to six weeks, but this jumped to six or seven months or longer due to terminal supply chain problems.
"Over the past seven or eight months Cisco, the high tech manufacturer responsible for much of the global internet infrastructure, has been in crisis due to the malfunctioning of its supply chain," Mr Cullen explained.
Meanwhile, Riverwood Solutions recently conducted its 2010 original equipment manufacturers (OEM) survey, which showed that 72 per cent of companies reported increasing their recruitment numbers for supply chain management this year, compared to just 29 per cent in 2009.
