Microsoft has revealed it is moving its IT into the cloud in a bid to make its supply chain strategy more agile, adaptable and cost-effective.
Speaking at Gartner's Supply Chain Executive Conference in London, Brian Tobey, corporate vice-president of manufacturing, supply chain, information and services at Microsoft, said that the move was a natural one.
According to the expert, it will help to eliminate the "traditional approach" of dealing with partners in a supply chain via one-to-one telephone connections.
"Supply chain is IT. The IT people have to understand supply chain. We put the IT group in [the supply chain] and then we told them that they have to be supply chain people, which took about four years," he noted.
Speaking to Q Finance recently, Keith Richardson, relationship director in Lloyds Banking Group's Major Corporate section, said that finance directors of supply chain companies need to look at a "wide range" of different financing options.
