NHS 'could save £300m' in supply chain costs

The NHS could be saving up to £300 million in supply chain costs over a three-year period if waste is effectively identified, managed and executed, it has been claimed.

According to Supply Chain Digital, Sentient Health has noted that the saving could be achieved by analysing trust data and the existing environment.

Joel Haspel, chief executive of Sentient Health, said that supply chain optimisation should become an NHS "priority", as £300 million of the £1.1 billion to £1.9 billion featured in a government report could be derived from improvements.

"We have already worked with a number of UK trusts to optimise their supply chain and have achieved considerable cost savings as well as improved efficiencies," he told Supply Chain Digital.

Recently, Anil Khurana, a director at PRTM Management Consultants, said that having an effective supply chain strategy is the first step on the road to business success, telling the National that those which had an effective supply chain strategy already had contingency plans in place to deal with the recent Icelandic volcano eruption.
