The UK Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) has marked the launch of its Nuclear Supply Chain Development Programme with a joint conference held with the Special Metals Forum (SMF), an Engineering Capacity article has confirmed.
Speaking at the forum, energy minister Mike O'Brien stated that companies in the UK should be the first to benefit from the future construction of nuclear power stations across the country, as UK manufacturers could earn "tens of billions" from producing the materials needed to create a new nuclear economy.
The nuclear power supply chain in Britain has the capacity to grow fiercely in the coming years as the government introduces an increasing number of nuclear power stations across the country.
Alan Partridge, chief executive of NAMTEC, which manages the SMF, was quoted in the Engineering Capacity article as saying: "The new nuclear build is a huge opportunity for UK manufacturing, and both NIA and SMF are seeking to ensure that our companies are able to exploit fully this unique opportunity.
"I would encourage all companies who are interested in supplying into the sector to contact us as soon as possible."
