Oracle software set to improve pharma supply chains

A new type of software is set to revolutionise the way in which pharmaceutical goods are tracked through the supply chain, it has been claimed.

Oracle has launched its Pedigree and Serialisation Manager (OPSM) software application, which is designed to help pharmaceutical manufacturers implement mass serialisation and traceability of their products.

Jon Chorley, a spokesman for the organisation, said that the software will "reduce business and reputational risk" associated with the rising incidence of drug counterfeiting and product diversion, while extending value across the pharmaceutical supply chain.

"Ensuring supply chain integrity is not only about compliance and protecting your brand, it's also about protecting your bottom line. By definitively identifying your products in the supply chain and providing a broad set of analytic insights on that data, OPSM will deliver both," he said.

It comes after several major companies, including Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Vestas and GKN, called on the government to reinstate investment due to weaknesses identified in British suppliers with regards to new technology.
