Supply chain management 'tougher than ever'

Thursday, 16/10/2008 03:34
The culmination of several factors affecting the world's businesses is creating a harder job for those managing supply chains than ever before, it has been reported.

For years, companies have been implementing just-in-time delivery and the advent of globalisation has led to a series of bigger and more expensive risks being taken with suppliers.

As such, the current issues of tightened credit and rising prices of oil make the margin of comfort surrounding operations extremely slim for those presiding over a complex supply chain.

A businessinsurance.com report suggested that risk managers are now being called upon more than ever to offer support during the current economic crises, as the number of issues affecting supply chains across the globe rises.

Many companies may wish to consult a third party supply chain management company though, which could offer insight into potential issues affecting markets abroad and how to prevent them having an adverse effect on a business at home.
