Companies which invest time developing a strong
supply chain strategy will be rewarded, according to one commentator.
Steve Steutermann, research vice president at Gartner, also pointed out that implementing these strategies effectively is key.
"The difference between leading organisations and the rest of the pack is the ability not only to formulate elegant strategies for supply chain excellence, but to execute [a] well-designed transformation plan," he explained.
The expert went on to say that before designing plans, supply chain leaders need to focus on a number of factors, such as whether the company has the capability to change, to ensure that the "best-laid plans are converted to reality and shareholder value".
Earlier this year, Klaus-Dieter Ruske, partner and global transportation and logistics industry leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers, said relationships within the global supply chain have become more complex and accident-sensitive during the last few years, highlighting the need for effective supply chain planning.
