Supply chains 'most important aspect of business'

The government should take steps to ensure supply chains are protected from companies struggling to maintain high levels of business in the face of the economic downturn, it has been suggested.

Alan Duncan, the Conservative shadow business secretary, has suggested in a Financial Times article that without government aid, one collapsing company could have serious repercussions on fellow organisations.

"This is a very small government risk for a massive commercial effect," Mr Duncan suggested.

"Keeping the supply chain well oiled is probably the most important aspect of business activity at the moment."

The comments come at a crucial time for supply chain management, as companies are battling fluctuating oil prices as well as increasing demand from consumers for ethical and environmentally friendly products.

A supply chain management company can assist an organisation in its decision to streamline a supply chain, or reduce its exposure to risks such as failing companies or economic fluctuations.
