US retail giant Wal-Mart has announced that it is to team up with the World Environment Centre (WEC) to create a cleaner supply chain through both cleaner production and energy efficiency measures.
The WEC will work alongside small and medium suppliers to Wal-Mart in order to assist the companies in improving their, "energy and water savings; waste, raw material and emissions reductions; [and] implementation of environmental management systems", a statement read.
Supply chains in the 21st century are now a significant part of a company's public image, and as such a great deal of care must be taken in order to ensure that suppliers are looked after and that they are not polluting the environment.
Reassessing a supply chain in order to make the process greener, or more ethical, however, can be costly and time consuming for most businesses.
Small and medium-sized companies hoping to improve their own supply chains could benefit greatly from contracting a supply chain management company, which could take on such responsibilities to save a company time and money.
