An ongoing skills shortage in the logistics industry could lead to a rise in
supply chain outsourcing, it has been suggested.
Shane D'Aprile, product associate at CargoWise, has told IFW that perceptions of the sector are lagging behind the reality and while funding has been promised to improve recruitment and training it is important to tackle these long-term issues.
He said: "With the right people and a skilled workforce, the logistics sector can continue to grow and drive economies around the world."
People frequently forget that logistics underpins almost every facet of everyday life and presents a rewarding and challenging industry for people to work in, he explained.
Mr D'Aprile added that it provides opportunities in almost every sector from sales and marketing to finance and IT.
Earlier this month, research conducted by CIO.co.uk found that companies' supply chain strategies are increasingly relying on quality IT services to succeed.
