Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are picking up the desire to become green through their supply chains, according to new figures.
A survey carried out in the US among SMEs, by market intelligence firm IDC, found that even the smallest of companies questioned by its researchers were concerned about the effects they may be having on the environment.
The findings point to similar attitudes in the UK, which is traditionally seen as greener than the US, as green supply chains have been making headlines of late in the UK and indeed throughout the rest of Europe.
Going green can be a costly business however, and one option open to SMEs is to outsource the supply chain management, in order to save both costs and time, which could allow a business to focus more heavily on other areas of its operation.
Outsourcing can also ensure that when a company goes green it can achieve a fully environmentally friendly supply chain, ensuring that no slip ups come back to haunt the organisation once it begins claiming to be 100 per cent green.
