Consumer supply chains 'home of innovation'

The consumer supply chain has been championed in a letter by Supply Chain Digest editor-in-chief Dan Gilmore, as a result of both its importance and innovative history.

Mr Gilmore explains that the consumer goods-based supply chain is responsible for launching or making great a whole host of technologies now used across industry, such as the barcode, collaborative planning forecasting and refreshment, and EDI.

However, there are many forms of supply chain which vary widely from the standard consumer-based chain, and as such there is varying difficulty involved with finding best practice solutions for any given company.

A company looking for best practice solutions may wish to contact a third-party supply chain management consultancy, which can improve a supply chain's efficiency or even help to reduce costs.

With an experienced team on board a supply chain management company can offer insight from years of work in supply chains, as well as simply a fresh pair of eyes looking at a business' current set up, resulting in a potentially entirely fresh approach.
