J Barbour and Sons, the outdoor clothing specialist, has announced that it has made amendments to it supply chain in an attempt to improve the efficiency of planning and purchasing.

The new and improved supply chain efficiencies will come as a result of new software aimed at providing managers with an oversight of the company's various departments at once.

"With our busiest period beginning in June, it was crucial that we found a software vendor that could deliver within a tight timeframe," explained Brenda Readman-Bell, finance and IT director at J Barbour and Sons.

Adapting a supply chain is one way in which companies can try to ensure cash is spent in a productive manner during the current recession, and could lead to large savings once the financial downturn ends.

Companies hoping to make their supply chains more efficient as a result of the ongoing recession may benefit from contracting a third-party supply chain management team, which can provide both experience and contacts to ensure maximum efficiency is achieved.
