Supermarket chain Asda is set to expand its logistics network by opening several new warehouses as part of a £500 million investment scheme.

Deliveries to stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland will be made easier with the opening of a new distribution centre north of the border and a specialist frozen products will be built to service the M62 corridor in Rochdale, Lancashire.

That’s on top of plans to redevelop a former Netto site in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire.

Andy Clarke, president and chief executive of Asda said: “I look forward to seeing these new stores and depots open for business and welcoming new colleagues and customers to our team.”

Asda has said that it needs the new sites to successfully the service the 25 new stores it is planning to open in the next two years.

In December Asda signed a ten year deal with logistics operator Clipper for the distribution of its George clothing line.
