The government yesterday (February 18th) announced that it is to launch a Pig Meat Supply Chain Task force, aimed at bringing together representatives from the pig meat industry.
The purpose of the Task Force will be that the government can better serve the industry by working more closely with leaders in the field, to increase efficiency in factors such as "labelling, public sector procurement [and] endemic disease".
Farming minister, Jane Kennedy, said in a statement: "I am convening a Task Force for the pig meat supply chain, which will meet for the first time next month."
While pig farmers and some other industry sectors will benefit from government intervention and aid to their supply chains, many will instead suffer from the ongoing rising costs of production typical as a result of the current recession.
Contracting a third-party supply chain management company could provide significant benefits to a company and could reduce costs significantly during the recession.
"The Task Force will be tightly focused on what needs to be done to improve confidence in the long term future of the British pig industry," Ms Kennedy said.
