Trade association the United Fresh Produce Association (UFPA) has confirmed that it is to begin work on supply chain improvements in order to keep costs lower for all parties involved in the process of shipping food around the world.
A Fresh Plaza report quoted United Fresh chairman of the board Tom Lovelace, of McEntire Produce, as saying: "From the increasing costs of distribution to the need to enhance traceability and quality control as produce moves from farm to table, our members are facing significant challenges to their profitability.
"Yet, with appropriate investments in technology and sound management practices, we can increase efficiencies, reduce the potential costs of product recalls and deliver to consumers even better tasting, higher quality produce."
Supply chains are being recognised as one of the most efficient ways of cutting costs in business today, and more so now than ever before as a result of the rising price of oil.
Any business looking to make adaptations to its own supply chain may benefit from talking to a third party supply chain management company, which could offer knowledge and best practice techniques in order to help reduce costs throughout the supply chain.
