Sustainability 'the key' in Morrisons supply chain strategy

Wednesday, 11/8/2010 03:11
Morrisons is focusing on sustainability as it looks to enhance its cheese supply chain strategy.

The Bradford-based supermarket giant has formed a partnership with First Milk, one of Britain's largest farmer-owned dairy businesses, in an effort to improve the sustainability of the UK cheese supply chain.

Morrisons head of agriculture David Evans said that the partnership is part of the supermarket's Farm programme, which supports research helping to improve the efficiency and sustainability of British farming.

"Our partnership with First Milk epitomises what the Morrisons Farm programme is all about. We are working directly with farmers and investing in projects that have the potential to deliver long term benefits to the farming industry," he explained.

Meanwhile, fellow supermarket Waitrose recently appointed David Jones to the role of supply chain director in a bid to sharpen its strategy.

Mr Evans will start the job on August 31st, after previously occupying the post of national registrar for John Lewis.
