Tesco has become the latest supermarket to set it sights on supply chain optimisation by signing a new software deal.
The grocery giant has teamed with Ortec Advanced Planning Software in a move which will help it to drive down operational costs by continuously optimising efficiency, increasing resource utilisation and driving down carbon emissions.
"Based on the successful piloting of Ortec with solid cost savings and service improvements, we are happy to announce Ortec as our partner for the transportation optimisation solution at Tesco," he said.
Michael van Duijn, vice-president of business strategy at Ortec, added that Tesco was looking for continuous improvement to ensure its supply chain was both effective and efficient.
Tesco is following in the footsteps of fellow supermarket chains Waitrose, Morrisons and Walmart, which have all taken steps to boost their supply chain strategy and reduce the overall environmental impact of their processes in recent weeks.
