Supermarket giant Waitrose will be added to its already extensive supply chain when it opens a new distribution centre in Buckshaw Village, near Chorley, Lancashire.
The new operation, which is part of its plans to open ten new stores in the north-west over the next five years, will create in the region of 600 jobs, but will also mean big things for local produce suppliers.
David Jones, Waitrose's supply chain director, told the Lancashire Telegraph that the chain would specifically look to give contracts to suppliers from the region.
He added: "I am sure there are looks of niche products, when I was last up here I bought some Lancashire cheese and black pudding on the market in Chorley, so there are lots of opportunities."
It' is news that surely comes as a welcome shot in the arm to area's otherwise hard hit economy.
Earlier this month the scheme, which will incorporate a 360,000 sq ft warehouse, was praised the prime minister Dave Cameron.
