Chambers of Commerce calls on government to boost export trade

The British Chambers of Commerce has said that the government needs to do more to help exporters of goods.

The second DHL/BCC Trade Confidence Index shows that while UK exporters have seen growth this quarter it has slowed considerably compared to previous periods.

The survey shows that 24 per cent of companies have seen a decrease in their export orders, while 35 per cent have seen an increase. However, the increases reported are at their lowest level since quarter three in 2009.

John Longworth, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, said that a degree of uncertainty over the UK's economic recovery coupled with the eurozone crisis is leading to slow down in growth.

He added: "The chancellor must use his Autumn Statement to deliver confidence to exporters, and encourage those looking to trade abroad for the first time to take the leap."

On top of a fall in growth, logistics strategy managers have also been hit recently with rising costs due to unforeseen circumstances.
