Inefficient supply chain strategy 'costs India $65bn a year'

India is losing $65 billion (£42 billion) a year because of inefficiencies in its supply chain strategy, according to a new report.

A study by industry body the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Amarthi Consulting has found that an inadequate supply chain infrastructure, complex taxation laws, high levels of intermediaries, product proliferation and a lack of supply chain visibility are all challenges facing the country.

The report noted that countries around the world should take note of the difficulties being encountered by India and aim to avoid duplicating the mistakes being made.

Commenting on the report, Anshuman Singh, managing director and chief executive officer of Future Supply Chain Solutions Ltd, told Money Life that being flexible is the key to continuous improvement in the supply chain.

Meanwhile, a new report issued by iSuppli Corp has warned that electronics firms across the planet are facing a potential supply chain "pile-up" characterised by tight inventories of parts and finished products and a "glut" of raw materials.
