Forming suitable supply chain partnerships can be the key to helping reduce the environmental impact among the planet's biggest IT firms, one expert on the subject has noted.
Writing in the Environmental Leader, Bill Olson, director of the office of sustainability and stewardship for mobile devices at Motorola, said that ICT companies are working across the supply chain to source components from post-recycled plastics and to create more eco-friendly packaging.
However, he noted that the entire industry is likely to benefit from stronger partnerships, and pointed to recent comments made by Amy Thomson, Verizon's group manager for sustainability.
She noted: "When a manufacturer and an operator team up to create set-tops that are 30 per cent more energy efficient, the benefits are two-fold: the equipment provides a better viewing experience for customers who have lower energy consumption and lower utility bills."
Meanwhile, Anil Khurana, a director at PRTM Management Consultants, recently told the National that having an effective supply chain strategy is the first step on the road to business success.
