A wind turbine expert has revealed that he expects manufacturers to have "ample opportunities" in the wind turbine supply chain because of converging trends, which may reflect the situation in the UK.
Tom Maves of the American Wind Energy Association said that more wind turbine manufacturers are now exporting to the US, while existing turbine manufacturers are trying to source a higher percentage of their components domestically.
He noted that the percentage of components purchased domestically for utility grade wind turbines grew from 25 per cent in 2005 to 50 per cent in 2009, while the volume of turbines manufactured has grown fourfold.
Mr Maves added that the overall market prospects for wind turbines remain strong domestically and efforts are beginning to establish wind turbines as part of the country's export economy – a move which may transfer to the UK.
