Lord Mandelson met with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) on Thursday (November 28th) to discuss the possibility of the government aiding the car industry.
The motor industry has come to the government in need of financial assistance in order to fight liquidity problems experienced by all manufacturing sectors at present.
Problems facing the motor industry are more acute than others, it has been argued, as a result of the large supply chain which is involved with the production of the UK's automobiles.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt said: "The industry outlined the scope and scale of the challenges it faces and the unprecedented difficulties in the market place.
"We emphasised the urgent need to address liquidity and restore demand and discussed a variety of measures to address these challenges. Government and industry have agreed to explore collaboratively a range of solutions in a timescale that matches the urgency of the situation."
Supply chains are difficult to maintain, which is why supply chain management companies are vital to many businesses hoping to get the most from their own supply chains.
