MoD supply chain scrutinised by National Audit Office

The National Audit Office (NAO) has released a report about the success of the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) supply chain in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In its study, it was discovered that the MoD has "not consistently met" its supply chain targets for the timeliness of deliveries.

However, it was also suggested that there were improvements and evidence that it was becoming "more resilient".

Since July 2007, around 71 per cent of demands made in Iraq and 51 per cent from Afghanistan have met targets.

In more positive news, it was also found that the average length of time a unit was waiting for a demand to be met had decreased by nearly 50 per cent in Afghanistan and a third in Iraq.

A summary of the report concluded that the MoD "is not operating a complementary route which alleviates the pressure on the military air transport fleet and enables a more timely service to be achieved".
