Thursday, 29/7/2010 01:00
With supply chains across the world becoming more dynamic, it is important that organisations keep up to speed with developments, one sector expert has claimed.

According to a survey of leading retail and manufacturing firms conducted by Tompkins Supply Chain Consortium, 'chief supply chain officer' is becoming a more common job title among firms across the UK.

Bruce Tompkins, executive director of the consortium, said that more can still be done to improve communication within this aspect of a business, however.

"With supply chains becoming more dynamic and agile, organisations need to able to keep up with the pace. These companies are beginning to realise the significance of having a high-level supply chain executive influence their business strategies," he commented.

Meanwhile, several major companies, including Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Vestas and GKN, have called on the government to reinstate investment in supply chains due to weaknesses identified in British suppliers with regards to new technology.
