Helicopter manufacturer Turbomeca has spoken about the benefits of outsourcing a supply chain, describing the choice as "key" in achieving its own goals.
Turbomeca USA, located in Grand Prairie, Texas, provides maintenance, overhaul, and repair and assembly services for helicopter engines, and as such has a high demand for keeping costs as manageable as possible.
Having outsourced its warehouse management, the company is now enjoying more time to focus on other operations, as an external company can now look after its warehouse layout and production lines delivery, as well as other ancillary services.
Speaking about the decision to outsource its supply chain, Larry Alexandre, chief operating officer at Turbomeca USA, said: "[Our] goal is clear: to become the industry's benchmark in helicopter engine production and support.
"[Outsourcing] is one key piece of the puzzle which will enable us to reach this goal," he added.
And with such a large volume supply chain it's understandable the benefits to be made by outsourcing.
So far Turbomeca has produced an impressive 50,000 of its own designed turbines, which have so far been exported to 2,200 customers across 150 countries.
