Process improvement: Women 'safer drivers than men'

Thursday, 13/8/2009 05:10
Managers who are looking at supply chain process improvement may want to employ additional female commercial drivers, if the following comments are anything to go by.

Adrian Walsh is the director of RoadSafe and explained women pose less of a risk behind the wheel than men.

Rather than be a sweeping statement, he asserted there had been a lot of research carried out into the subject, proving this to be the case.

As well as attempting fewer dangerous moves, females are also generally more caring than their male counterparts, stated Mr Walsh.

He said: "As far as safety is concerned, women are much safer drivers than men in almost every respect."

One tip Mr Walsh concluded with – which could be useful for commercial drivers of either gender – was to "read your highway code and obey it".

RoadSafe is made up of companies in the motor and transport industry, as well as the government.
