The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has proposed the drawing up of an industry Euro-manifesto at the International Road Transport Union's Goods Transport Liaison Committee last week.
Roger King, the chief executive of the RHA, said that now is a "golden opportunity" to take the case of the road haulage industry to politicians.
Mr King said: "There is no better time to influence would be MEPs than when they are seeking either election or re-election.
"Given the current economic climate, we must fight hard as a united body to establish the case for a euro-wide climate of encouragement for road haulage rather than the current regime of ever rising levels of restriction and taxation."
He added that "low cost" and "effective" transport were the "very foundation of economic success".
Road haulage is a vital part of any supply chain and as such, can lead to wider problems if there are issues within the industry.
