The retailing world has begun a major process of redesigning its supply chains as the economy forces consumers and businesses to reassess their spending habits, it has been confirmed.
Consumer favourite B&Q is one of the larger chains to embark on such a remodelling, as Martin Bitmead, B&Q's space and merchant development manager, explained to computing.co.uk.
Changing customer demand, higher rents and tighter budgets are all leading large retailers to reconsider their spending decisions, the report stated.
Companies aware of a need to improve efficiency may do well to contract a third-party supply chain management company, which can offer experience for businesses as well as an insider's knowledge of recent technological advances.
The announcements come as high street retailer Woolworths is struggling under the financial crisis, having recently confirmed it may sell the business for as little as one pound.
